The wine’s pronounced acidity is beautifully countered by an approachable freshness in the form of peach, nectarine, and candied citrus flavors. The warm nature of the Dundee Hills appellation affords a slightly round, rich texture, pulled taut by the highly influential volcanic soils and their signature offering of brightness and minerality.
The 2013 Looney Vineyard Pinot Noir opens expansively and expressively with lifted aromas of fresh blueberry, crushed mulberry, grenadine, citrusy Satsuma mandarin and a hint of crushed stone. The bouquet is echoed in the palate, entering with wild strawberry, ground oats and blueberry syrup. Crisp acidity gives the wine a vibrant, refreshing quality as citrus notes emerge, joined by hits of bramble and clove, and lingering through the lasting, round finish.
The 2016 Archery Summit Estate is an elegant, deeply toned Pinot noir, with a seductive aroma, melding together notes of wilted red rose petal, rich, new leather and dried blueberry. The palate is plush and succulent, a provocative fusion of Amarena cherry, red currant and Madagascar vanilla. It’s juicy acidity and sophisticated tannins beg for a rich, hearty dish and an evening of celebration, while the sumptuous, lingering finish will leave you dreaming of another glass long after the bottle is gone.
Round and generous in profile, the 2016 Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir offers layers of mouth-enveloping ripe fruit flavors. On the nose touches of violet and lavender pair with bright hints of mulberry and berry bramble. Juicy blue fruit notes of mulberry, blueberry, and black raspberry lead into secondary flavors of Oolong tea leaf, fresh forest floor, and a touch of minerality imparted from the marine sedimentary soils found on this growing site. Golden yellow in the glass, this wine is effusive, with a fresh and vivid palate. The bouquet is full of enticing aromas of ripe green papaya, lime, freesia blossom and kiwi, while the palate exhibits a lively, bright mouthfeel with subtle flint and brackish notes and a lengthy finish.
The 2017 offers a highly focused beam of lemon zest and blood orange alongside the more expected strawberry and cherry notes. While refined, this wine is also mysterious and chameleonlike in the glass. The mouthfeel is all-encompassing without being overwhelming. As is typical of the vintage, the 2017 is rich and ripe, with a gracefulness brought on by longer hangtime and acid retention in the vineyard.
